Jerry Lawler, the self-proclaimed ''King'' of professional wrestling, is a true legend of the sport. After a brief career as a disc jockey, the Memphis native began training in the squared circle under wrestling great Jackie Fargo. But, after the student beat his teacher years later, Lawler pronounced himself ''The King'' . In the years to come, this superstar would claim dozens of world and regional titles-most notably the now-defunct AWA (American Wrestling Association) Heavyweight Title. In fact, he unified that belt with another major World Title at the time, the now-defunct WCCW (World Class Championship Wrestling) Belt. However, Lawler is a household name not for his title wins, but for his infamous run-ins with the late comedian Andy Kaufman in the early 1980s. ''The King'' challenged his foe to a battle in Memphis, which Lawler won after planting Kaufman with a devastating piledriver. Later, the two would appear on the David Letterman show, which resulted in another beating for the comedian. In the early 90s, Lawler entered the World Wrestling Federation and immediately set his sights on Bret Hart. Following the Hit Man's 1993 King of the Ring win, the Memphis native brutally attacked Bret at his inauguration ceremony. Following that bitter feud, Lawler became a facet of the Federation broadcasting team on RAW IS WAR, but still dons his ring attire from time to time! Some say ''The King'' is at his proudest when his alleged son ''Too Sexy'' BrianChristopher competes in the Federation squared circle-carrying on the same cocky tradition as his supposed father!
