--------------WRESTLEMANIA XV RESULTS
One of the most popular R&B groups of
all time, Boyz II Men, sang a rendition of "America The
Beautiful" to kick off WrestleMania XV!
The mood in the arena immediately changed from soulful to
hardcore as Badd Ass Billy Gunn put the Hardcore Championship on
the line in a Triple Threat match with Hardcore Holly and Al
Snow. In the end, Billy Gunn knocked out Al Snow with a Rocker
Dropper on a chair. Mr. Ass went for the cover, but Holly picked
up the chair and nailed Gunn with it. With Billy dazed, Holly
cover Snow and got the pin to become the new Hardcore Champion!
After ending up as the final two competitors in the battle royal
on HEAT, D'Lo Brown and Test had to team up in a Tag Team Title
Match against Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett. Debra got up on the
ring apron to try and distract Test and D'Lo, but Ivory ran
around and pulled the blonde bombshell down. Test got in Ivory's
face, leaving D'Lo alone in the ring with Owen and Jeff. Even
though D'Lo was in control and had Jarrett set up for his
patented Sky High, Hart came flying off the top rope and hit the
former European Champion with a missile dropkick. Jarrett fell on
top of D'Lo and got the three count and his team retained the
titles.
In the highly anticipated Brawl For All, Butterbean took on Bart
Gunn. Gunn got back up after being knocked down early in the
first round, but Butterbean floored him again quickly with an
amazing right hand to the jaw. Bean, the 330 pounder from Jasper,
Alabama, got the win via knockout 40 seconds into the first
round.
In the match to determine who would be the referee for the main
event at WrestleMania, Paul Wight took on Mankind. The Deranged
One had apparently pissed off The Big Show earlier on HEAT and
Wight didn't seem to worry about being disqualified. He picked up
a steel chair and pummeled Mankind with it repeatedly. Then he
threw two steel chairs into the ring, stood them up next to each
other, and chokeslammed the former Federation Champion through
them! The referee called for the bell, awarding the decision to
Mankind via disqualification. Mr. McMahon marched out from the
backstage area irate at Wight for not getting the job done. This
upset The Big Show, and he grabbed the owner for a Chokeslam.
However, he decided against it and let Mr. McMahon go. The owner
went on to slap Wight, and this time to the delight of the crowd
Wight punched him square in the face! The stooges came to the aid
of the owner, while an ambulance crew carted Mankind away on a
stretcher. A bit later, Wight was arrested!
In a Four Corners elimination match for the Intercontinental
Championship, the Road Dogg defended against Val Venis, Ken
Shamrock and Goldust, accompanied by Ryan Shamrock and the Blue
Meanie. Val and Shamrock were eliminated when they were counted
out. That left the Road Dogg and Goldust as the final two
competitors. The Bizarre One seemed to be in control, and he ran
off the ropes to attack the Dog. However, Ryan Shamrock tripped
him! There was much confusion at ringside, and eventually the
Road Dogg rolled on top of the Bizarre One and got the pin. After
the match, Ryan walked away visibly upset, while the Meanie tried
to convince Goldust that Ryan was bad news.
As Kane came out for his match with Triple H, the Famous Chicken
attacked him from behind! Kane eventually unmasked him--and it
was Pete Rose wearing the costume! Rose was still apparently
upset about the Tombstone he got from Kane last year, but
unfortunately for the former Cincinnati Red, he was the victim of
another Tombstone this year!
Triple H ran out from the back and the match got underway.
Eventually, Chyna made her way out from the back. She grabbed the
ring steps and tossed them into the ring. Kane tried to attack
HHH with them, but Hunter kicked them into Kane's face, and
followed up by tripped the Big Red Machine, sending him face
first into the steps. Kane regained control and hit Triple H with
a chokeslam. Chyna grabbed a steel chair and climbed up to the
ring, telling Kane that she wanted to finish off Hunter herself.
Kane turned his back and Chyna smacked the 7-foot monster with
the chair! HHH took the chair and pummeled Kane twice, and
followed up with a Pedigree on the chair! The referee \softpage
called for the bell, and disqualified the leader of DX. But it
didn't seem to matter-Triple H and Chyna embraced, and the crowd
went crazy.
Next up, Sable took on Tori for the Federation Women's
Championship. After the referee was inadvertently knocked out,
Tori looked to finish off the femme fatale. However, Nicole Bass
came through the crowd and attacked Tori! The Women's Champion
finished her off with the Sablebomb.
What was supposed to be a European Title match between Shane
McMahon and X-Pac turned out to be more like X-Pac vs. the entire
Corporation! As X-Pac made his way to the ring, the stooges
attacked him. During the match, Test continually got involved,
going so far as pulling X-Pac out of the ring when the degenerate
had Shane pinned after a superplex. Chyna and Triple H came out,
but after X-Pac hit Shane with the X-Factor, Chyna distracted the
referee! Triple H attacked X-Pac from behind and delivered the
Pedigree, pulled Shane on top, and Shane retained the title!
After the match, Test, Triple H, Chyna and Shane assaulted X-Pac.
The New Age Outlaws came out to aid X-Pac, but the Corporation
also beat them down. Finally Kane came out and ran off the
members of the Corporation.
In the Hell In A Cell match, both men were busted wide open and
the Undertaker finished off the Boss Man with a Tombstone. After
the match, Christian, Edge and Gangrel came down from the
ceiling, and dropped a noose through the cell! The Undertaker
took the noose and wrapped it around Boss Man's neck! The cell
rose, and Boss Man rose along with it! Finally, EMT crews arrived
and took Boss Man away on a stretcher.
With Paul Wight in jail and Mankind in the hospital, Mr. McMahon
named himself the referee for the main event. But after the owner
came out, Shawn Michaels' music played and the Commissioner
arrived to a huge ovation from the crowd. Michaels reminded
everyone that no WrestleMania is complete without HBK. Shawn said
he had been reading through the Federation rulebook, which
clearly states that only the commissioner can appoint a referee
for the main event. HBK assured Mr. McMahon that he would not be
the referee, and he ordered him back to the locker room. In fact,
Michaels banned all members of the Corporation from ringside.
After The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin entered the ring, one
of the most anticipated matches in Federation history got
underway. The superstars battled in and out of the crowd and
exchanged several near falls. Austin grabbed a chair, but The
Rock pulled the referee in front and the Rattlesnake
inadvertently clobbered the official with the chair. Another
referee came in, but he upset The Rock and was the victim of a
Rock Bottom. Yet another official came out, but so did Mr.
McMahon, who punched this referee, knocking him down. Just when
it seemed like every referee had been taken out, Mankind emerged
from the back and assumed officiating duties! The Rock nailed
Austin with the Rock Bottom, but Austin kicked out! Austin took a
second Rock Bottom, and this time the champion went for the
Corporate Elbow. However, Austin moved out of the way. After
several moves and countermoves, Austin was able to hit the Stone
Cold Stunner and cover The Rock for the win to become the World
Wrestling Federation Champion!
As WrestleMania XV came to an end, Austin and referee Earl Hebner
downed a beer, and after Austin stunned Mr. McMahon, he poured a
few beers on the Federation owner!
